“Essentially, it is a comprehensive, interactive study tool built entirely around the SQA multiple-choice questions for both Higher and National 5 (including specimen papers and Revised Higher papers). I wanted to create something that moves beyond just giving students a PDF of past papers. DELTA gives them a way to actively track their weak spots, drill specific topics, and get a bit of gamified encouragement along the way.
It runs entirely in the browser and was designed to fit a phone screen. It is perfect for phones, tablets, or Chromebooks and is touch-aware. All of a student’s progress and stats are saved locally on their own device. They can save progress to a file to sync between devices if they wish.”
They each have an ‘Information’ choice in the floating access button at the bottom right. This button also houses the stats, the heat map, the data sheet and the relationships sheet.
DELTA Physics: What’s under the hood?
If you want to point your students towards it, here is a quick rundown of what the app can actually do:
The Core Modes
- Standard Practice: Students can filter the database by Unit, Topic, or Year (or shuffle them all). They get instant feedback, and it tracks their current correct-answer streak.
- Exam Mode: Simulates paper conditions. It hides the answers until the end and runs a timer. Students can choose strict SQA pacing (1.8 minutes per question) or a more relaxed pace.
- Review Mode: A smart playlist. The app remembers what questions a student gets wrong and creates a custom quiz forcing them to fix their outstanding errors before they can clear the queue.
- “A” Mark Only: A quick toggle that filters the database to only show the toughest discriminator questions for your high-flyers.
- Challenge Mode: A sudden-death survival game. Students try to build the longest streak possible. To help them survive, they get three single-use “Lifelines” (Decay to remove 2 wrong answers, Rebound to shield a mistake, or Discharge to skip).
Tracking & Analytics
- The Heatmap: A visual grid covering every topic in the course. As students master questions, the grid turns from red to green, showing them exactly where their revision time is best spent.
- Focus List: If a student gets stuck, they can hit a button to bookmark the question to their Focus List. They can then pull this list up in class to ask you about specific SQA questions they are struggling with.
- Badges & Stats: A bit of gamification to keep them motivated. They earn badges for total questions answered, hitting streak milestones, or even revising at certain times of the day (like the “Night Owl” or “Early Bird” badges).
Built-in Tools
- Digital SketchPad: Students can pull up an on-screen notepad to scribble down working, or physically draw over the question image to annotate forces, circuits, or rays.
- Resource Drawer: The SQA Data Sheet and Relationships Sheet are built directly into a quick-access menu, so they don’t have to juggle multiple tabs while working.
- Dark Mode: Because no student wants to stare at a bright white screen at 10 PM!
