Introduction to Higher Physics

Some advice!

• Analyse your work and identify areas for improvement.
• Use past papers along with the SQA website – make sure you look at the marking instructions; your teacher will show you how.
• Attend after-school Supported Study regularly.
• Ask teachers at interval or lunchtime for help with homework or to borrow extra resources.
• Practise with basic knowledge questions and tutorial questions.
• Make, obtain and use flash cards.
• Try mind-maps or spider diagrams to link ideas together.
• Generate your own short notes and summaries.
• Get familiar with the equations on page 2 of the data sheet – stick a copy in your jotter and add your own notes.
• Create and learn mnemonics (e.g. ROYGBIV – Richard Of York Gave Battle In Vain, RMIVUXG) – but do not overdo them.
• Plan a weekly revision timetable. (There is a 10 week plan in the Revision section. If you are busy, give yourself longer and start early.)
• Record and listen to your own notes as mp3 files.
• Use Flash Learning, Scholar, Glesga Physics or other good online resources.
• Visit useful websites and this departmental website regularly.
• Use Post-it notes around your room or house (ask permission first!).
• After each lesson, revise as soon as you can by asking:
  • What were the main learning objectives?
  • Do I understand these?
  • What can I do to improve?

Proof that Meatloaf was a Physics student:

• 1 mark for the formula
• 1 mark for substitution
• 1 mark for the correct answer with the correct unit
